Attendance Procedures & Policies

ABSENCES FROM SCHOOL

It is the parent/guardian’s responsibility for reporting their child’s absence(s) to the school in a timely manner.  Parents may notify the school of an absence either by telephone or in writing.

1.  You may call (951) 736-4616 any time of the day.

2.  Students may bring their absence note directly to the office student window before school.

The note should be written in ink on a whole sheet of paper and should include:

Student’s name and ID#, dates and reason for absence, and parent signature.

Absences not verified as excused within 10 days will be automatically recorded as unexcused/truancy absences that cannot be changed at the school site.

CHRONIC ABSENCES

Any pupil who is absent from school for 10 percent or more of the school year for any reason is considered to be chronically absent.  Chronic absenteeism means missing 10 percent of a school year for any reason (excused or not).  Students who are chronically absent may be referred to the Student Attendance Review Team (SART) and/or Student Attendance Review Board (SARB).

ARRIVAL TO SCHOOL

Students enter the main building and go directly to the picnic tables between 7:30 A.M. and 7:55 A.M.  A student may go to the office student window if he/she has a note excusing an absence.  A student may go to the library or a teacher’s classroom if he/she has a pass from the teacher.  Supervision is not provided before 7:30.  No student should be on campus before 7:30 A.M.

TARDINESS

Students arriving to class later than 8:00 A.M. are considered tardy.  Appropriate disciplinary action will ensue according to the number of tardies to school or class period.  Progressive discipline may involve students receiving lunch detentions, after-school detentions, intervention placement, and/or referral to the School Attendance Review Team based on the number of tardies.
