Mission Statement

The mission of the Physical Education department at Citrus Hills Intermediate School (CHIS) is to provide the student with a quality education aligned with the California Physical Education Standards. Students will acquire the knowledge and capabilities to pursue life long activity and the importance of being healthy and fit through movement education. Students will have experiences in the areas of: individual, dual, and team sports , fitness, health, and rhythms, to enhance individual motivation, self-esteem, and educational success

ACTIVITIES

In addition to a variety of activities, all classes will participate in the fitness lab, a Health unit covering nutrition, fitness components, the Prudential Fitnessgram test (required by the State of California), child lures, bullying curriculum, and once a week participate in a cardiovascular endurance program. Every student at Citrus Hills will be participating in an on going fitness conditioning program. The major emphasis of the fitness program is to improve and maintain optimal levels of all fitness components including: aerobic endurance, body composition, flexibility, muscular strength, muscular endurance. Students will develop a desire to establish lifelong fitness habits.

GRADING POLICY
Students’ grades are computed on a percentage/point system. Emphasis may be placed on participation, fitness improvement, written assignments/exams, and skill assessment.

Grading criteria for the department may vary for each teacher.


PARTICIPATION

Absent students are to make up missing grade points for the amount of days missed. Students may complete a written assignment. They will be asked to turn in the assignment within the same period of time they were absent. If an absence occurs on an aerobic endurance or test day they MUST make up that activity within one week of time or get a different assignment from their teacher. It is the students responsibility to make up any missed assignments.

Points are deducted for the following occurrences during the daily activities of class participation.

Tardy, Loaner, Gum, Lack of Effort, Poor Sportsmanship, Dress Code Violation (Sagging, not wearing the correct shoes, shoes not laced correctly, street clothes under PE attire)

Extra Credit Points can be earned at the discretion of each teacher.


FITNESS IMPROVEMENT

Students may be evaluated on fitness improvement. Percentage/Points will vary according to teacher. 

SKILLS ASSESSMENT

Students may be evaluated on skill attainment for each unit. Points will vary according to assignment. 

WRITTEN ASSIGNMENTS/EXAMS

Written tests and assignments may be given. These can include note taking, quizzes, tests, reports, work sheets, and projects. Points will vary according to assignments.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION UNIFORM POLICY
  • Physical Education/Kinesiology Department will sell the PE uniform to students.

  • Shorts and shirts can be purchased throughout the year for $20.00. Separate purchases are $10.00 each. CASH ONLY

  • Sweats are suggested for cold days only and worn over PE uniform.

  • Shorts and shirt must have first and last name written on them. No other writing is acceptable. If there is other writing on them the student will be required to buy new clothes.

  • PE clothes that are torn must to be replaced immediately.

  • Uniforms need to be taken home and washed every Friday and returned on Monday.

 

PHYSICAL EDUCATION DRESSING POLICY
  • Non-suits will not be tolerated!  Students that refuse to dress out will receive 0 points for that day and will be sent to ACP (Alternate Class Placement).

  • Loaner clothes are available for those students that forget their clothes. However, excessive loaner use will result in consequences. One day a week detentions will be given to students wearing loaners.

  • Students will turn in their book bags or notebook in exchange for the loaner uniform.

  • Jewelry can not be worn out to class, this includes all body piercing (stud earrings are allowed). Bring something to place it in during class.

  • Physical Education department is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

  • The Physical Education staff will take all necessary precautions in adjusting activities due to heat, smog, rain, or other circumstances.

  • Students must remain in PE clothes during class time. Clothes are not to be taken off or put on outside of the locker room.

  • Students are only allowed to wear PE uniform during PE class only. Students are not allowed to wear their PE uniform to other classes.

  • School clothing may not be worn underneath PE clothes.
Progressive discipline will be used for not following the above rules. MEDICAL EXCUSES · A parent or guardian may write a note excusing a student from activity for up to three days.
  •  Student is still required to dress out daily.
  • Notes should include student name, reason for not participating, date, telephone number, and parent or guardian signature.
  • If a student needs to be excused for more than three days, a doctor’s note is required. The doctor must clear the student before returning to activities.
  • Students with physical limitations or illness need to bring a doctor’s note outlining any modifications that are needed in their physical activity routine. Physical activity will be modified accordingly.
  • If a student is inhaler-dependent, student should carry it out EVERY day to class. Do not leave it at home or in the locker.
CLASS AND LOCKER ROOM RULES One of our goals is to limit thefts in the locker room. We have developed some rules that should help if followed correctly.
  • No borrowing of clothes from friends.
  • Lockers should remain locked with all items in locker before, during, and after physical education. If there is not enough room, items can be placed in a designated area.
  • No sharing of lockers.
  • Students are responsible for their locks. Lost locks will cost $6.00 to replace.
  • Any lock that is not issued by the P.E department will be cut off.
  • Students must not share combinations with other students.
  • The school and department are not responsible for lost or stolen items.
  • No eating or drinking in the locker room.
  • No cell phones in locker room or out during class time.
  • No cameras in the locker room, if found will be confiscated with out refund on film.
  • No aerosol cans (district policy).
  • Students may not be in the locker room without permission, other than usual dressing period.
  • Locks are not to be removed from the locker room. (still applies when student is off track)

CITRUS HILLS MILE CLUBS

10 Mile Club

  • Male students who run the mile under 8:00 min. 10 times in the school year will receive a white mile club T-Shirt.
  • Female students who run the mile under 9:00 min. 10 times in the school year will receive a white mile club T-Shirt.

20 Mile Club

  • Male students who run the mile under 7:30 min. 10 times in the school year will receive a blue mile club T-Shirt.
  • Female students who run the mile under 8:30 min. 10 times in the school year will receive a blue mile club T-Shirt.

30 Mile Club

Male students who run the mile under 7:00 min min. 10 times in the school year will receive a red mile club T-Shirt.

  • Female students who run the mile under 8:30. 10 times in the school year will receive a red mile club T-Shirt.

Students are required to be tested in the state of California for grades 5, 7 and 9. 

These are the health fitness zones to pass in 7th grade and work toward in 9th grade.
